OF FAITH |
by David A. DePra |
Regarding sin and forgiveness:
God forgives us from all sin through Jesus Christ.
Therefore, the one sin which God cannot forgive is
the refusal of His forgiveness.
If God forgave the refusal of His forgiveness, it would
make His forgiveness in Christ meaningless.
The refusal of God's forgiveness is, in fact, the
unpardonable sin.
God does not forgive us because we believe. We
believe because God has forgiven us in Jesus Christ.
God does not forgive us because we confess. We
confess because we believe we are forgiven in
Jesus Christ.
God's forgiveness for sin is a finished thing. It is
complete whether we believe it or not. But we must
believe or it will do us no good. We are saved by
grace through faith.
God saves us while we are yet sinners. This means
that we have absolutely nothing to do with our
salvation. We need only embrace the reality that
Jesus did it all.
Never think forgiveness for sin is a license to commit
sin. Forgiveness truly received never results in
license. It results in freedom from sin.
Forgiveness never waters down sin. It calls it
exactly what it is and releases the offender.
Sin manifests itself in many wicked ways. But
according to God, one of the worst is that of
religious self-righteousness.
You will never be more forgiven than you are at this
moment. It is finished.
You cannot conquer sin. You must stand in the
victory of Jesus Christ against it, through faith and
obedience.
